December 12, 2000 - Snow cancels finals

Growing up every student's dream was waking up to see the ground covered with snow and then hearing that school was cancelled. A snow day was the best gift a kid could get. But now imagine the worst time a snow day could occur, the Tuesday of finals week. That's exactly what occurred as an early snow storm hit the South Bend area and dropped enough snow to close the University for the third time since the late 1970s.

At first glance, a student may think "This gives me another day to study." Then the student realizes that they need to make up the exam at another time. The registrar rescheduled the missed exams for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday evening. For example, the freshman chemistry final was rescheduled for Thursday night from 10:00pm - 12:00am. Besides the inconvenience of having to take a final exam so ridiculously late, there were many conflicts with students who had already arranged travel home particularly flights.
