February 5, 1990 - NBC deal signed
When Notre Dame and NBC agreed to an exclusive football contract, Notre Dame became the first American college in history to sell football games to a national television network. The deal allowed NBC to broadcast five home games during the 1991 season. The initial contract was for five years in length and worth $38M, or $1.2M per game. Since then the contract has been continually extended, currently lasting through 2015. NBC always broadcasts one neutral site game for the Irish (prior locations include San Antonio, New York City, and Washington D.C.). NBC Sports (formally Versus) will also show past Notre Dame games and other sporting events like hockey.
