February 20, 1943 - The game plays on

Three days earlier, men's basketball coach George Keogan suffered a massive heart attack and passed away unexpectedly. This morning his funeral was held and the team buried their coach. The team had a game to play this afternoon and Keogan's widow urged the team to go and play. The team traveled to Chicago Stadium to play the second game in a double header with Moose Krause as their coach. The first game saw Kentucky beat DePaul 53-44 and the nightcap pitched Notre Dame against Great Lakes Naval Station. The game went into overtime but the distraught team fell to the Naval Squad, 56-60.
