February 29, 1992 - Perfect Free Throw Shooting

Under first year head coach, John MacLeod, Notre Dame was nearing the end of the regular season and currently stood with a 12-12 record. St. John's came to the Joyce Center ranked #20. Notre Dame would win the game 79-70 and improve their record to 13-12.

During the game, LaPhonso Ellis would tie the record for consecutive free throws made in a game, first set by Donald Royal versus DePaul in 1986. Ellis and Royal both made 16 consecutive free throws in a single game. Ellis would also join a long list of players to not miss a free throw in a game (with at least 10 attempts) as he shot a perfect 16 of 16 during the game.
