April 6, 1988 - Only Bookstore Basketball game decided by coin toss

Bookstore Basketball, the world's largest 5-on-5 outdoor basketball tournament, has been occurring annually since 1972. Each game begins with a coin toss where the winner chooses either possession or direction of play. After one team has scored 11 baskets, the teams change sides and continue until one team has scored 21 baskets and won by at least two.

Only once in the past thirty years has a game ended early by a coin toss. The Wedge, A Hoosier, and 3 Other Lame Guys were playing 4 Guys From Air Loomer when the score was stuck at 14-10 for some time as a heavy rain continued to fall. Both teams agreed the best way to end the game was by a coin toss, the same way the game began. The Wedge, A Hoosier, and 3 Other Lame Guys won the toss and advanced to the next round.
