March 10, 1953 - The First NCAA Tournament Game


The Men's Basketball team had 17-4 record at the end of the regular season. There were victories over #12 UCLA, #6 Holy Cross, #17 Louisville, and #15 DePaul. John Jordan's #17 ranked Irish would be rewarded for their season with the team's first ever trip to the NCAA Tournament.

The team traveled to Fort Wayne to play the Eastern Kentucky Colonels, the first match-up between the two teams. The Irish would win 72-57 for their first ever NCAA win.
