March 12, 2013 - The First (and Last) Big East Tournament Championship

For the first time since joining the Big East, the women's basketball team would become the Big East Tournament champions. This would stand as the team's only Big East Tournament championship since Notre Dame moved to the ACC the following season.

With the 61-59 win, Notre Dame improved to 1-6 in championship games, with all seven games coming against Connecticut. This victory would also be the third victory in as many games against UConn to this point in the season. Over the last eight games, Notre Dame now had a 7-1 record against Connecticut. Since Notre Dame also won the Big East regular season by going 16-0, the Irish ended the Huskies' streak of 19-straight seasons as either the regular season or conference tournament champions.

While Skylar Diggins was the team's leader, Kayla McBride would score a game-high 23 points and be named the tournament MVP. Jewell Loyd had 16 points and Diggins had 12.
