August 27, 1977 - The Observer Starts The Year

By John P. Hickey, Jr. '69 & IrishTrpt07

As the 1977 school year began, The Observer ran an issue welcoming the Freshmen to campus. The front page featured a football themed cement truck pouring cement for the construction of Fitzpatrick Hall of Engineering.

The second page showed the foundation of Fitzpatrick, or more commonly loved by many an engineer as the "A" and "B" levels.

Under coach Dan Devine, the football team was coming off of a 9-3 season in 1976. If the freshmen only knew what was to come the following year. (spoiler: a national championship season with an 11-1 record and victory over #1 Texas)
