October 24, 1914 - The Shift begins to take form

By Olson

ND was back on a train and headed for South Dakota almost as soon as they arrived back in South Bend.

Maybe ND was tired from all of the train rides, or maybe it was the new fangled shifting offense-but at halftime the score was ND 0 SD 0.

Notre Dame woke up in the 2nd half and scored 33 straight points.

Cofall passed for a TD and ran for another. Bergman scored twice.

The defense-led by C Freeman 'Fitz' Fitzgerald pitched a shutout. The final score ND 33 - 0.

Freeman would later be the ND frosh coach who first inserted one George Gipp in a Irish frosh game in 1916....the same coach that the Gipper disobeyed one frosh game later when George kicked a 62 yd drop kick game winning FG when he was told to punt.
