April 21, 1917 - Track team ties the world record
In front of 6,000 spectators, the 8th Annual Drake Relays were held in Iowa. The Notre Dame 4x800 team finished with a time of 7:56.45, which tied the world record and set a new Drake Relays record. Purdue led for most of the race and helped set the fast pace. Down the stretch of the last lap, Meehan took the lead for Notre Dame and won the race.
