October 7, 2000 - Urban Meyer calls the offensive plays

Freshman quarterback Matt LoVecchio would make his first collegiate start for #25 Notre Dame against Stanford. Hesitant to start a freshman quarterback, head coach Bob Davie initially turned the play calling over to his young assistant coach, Urban Meyer.

The first series of the game is seen in the video below:

Viewing the game fifteen years later, the beginnings of a spread offense and zone reads can be seen. It would seem Meyer was on to something and a bit ahead of his time with this new offense.

Despite Davie resuming play calling duties, ND would hold on to win 20-14.

The astute viewer will also recognize the coach for Stanford on the sidelines - future Notre Dame coach, Tyrone Willingham.
