July 13, 2000 - President Clinton awards Fr. Hesburgh with Congressional Gold Medal

Fr. Hesburgh receives Congressional Gold MedalPresident Clinton presented Fr. Hesburgh with the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest honor Congress can bestow upon a civilian. Fr. Hesburgh was honored for his public service as Notre Dame's president, his work on civil rights, and his efforts on international peace.
